Chidambaram announces Rs 8,500cr for various women-specific schemes

Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday announced a number of women-specific schemes and measures for empowerment of the fair sex. In his budget speech, Mr. Chidambaram announced the establishment of India’s first public sector all-women bank. He announced that India’s first public sector women’s bank would be established with an initial capital of Rs 1,000 crore. The public-sector bank, which will address the financial requirements of women citizens, will be served by women bankers. read more
